Subsea Connect has succesfully completed a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for a custom-built MIDAS MPS propulsion control system. Designed as a 1:1 direct replacement, the system will be installed on a tanker vessel as part of a wider retrofit program.

The FAT is a critical stage in the project timeline. It involves comprehensive testing of the system at the factory to verify performance, safety, and integration before the equipment is delivered. This ensures any issues are resolved early, reducing installation risks and avoiding delays during commissioning or sea trials.

This propulsion control system was developed to interface directly with the vessel’s existing bow thruster infrastructure. Because it was engineered as a direct 1:1 replacement, no structural or electrical changes were required, allowing for faster onboard integration and reduced installation complexity. This specific retrofit is the first of five planned across the customer’s fleet.

While innovation often drives the development of new systems, in this case, the customer sought a straightforward, reliable solution that could be deployed quickly. By focusing on seamless integration rather than redesign, Subsea Connect was able to deliver a trusted system that balanced performance with operational efficiency.

“Sometimes the best solution isn’t the most complex one, but the one that fits the customer’s needs precisely. This FAT demonstrates how well-thought-out engineering and practical application come together.”

Subsea Connect continues to support vessel owners with tailored retrofit solutions that reduce downtime and extend asset life.
